*based on what is written on the bottle itself*

Bentonite Clay : Mineral clay from natural volcanic ash has high content of minerals to effectively absorb excess dirt, oil & impurities from skin.

Fucosorb : Natural seaweed extract with minerals & vitamins to provide moisturizing & antioxidant effects.
Super Hyaluronic Acid : Intense hydration ingredient helps to prevent dryness and keep skin soft and supple.

based on CosDNA
Based on CosDNA, this product contains Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS) which can be a very bad ingredient for those who have a sensitive skin.

But it also contains Glycerin, one of the hydrating ingredients that can increase the amount of water in your skin cells so that your skin wouldn't get dehydrated and your skin won't creates more oil to make up for the missing water which can lead to breakout, irritation and dry patches.

As for me, I would really avoid SLS and any other harmful ingredient that can cause acne or comedogenic because I obviously don't want to trigger all those whiteheads of mine to pop out and say hi to me hahaha.

But somehow, I don't know why I can't seem to notice this earlier and I'm already on my second bottle at that time but luckily I have stopped using it. Pheww!

How To Use?

✿ Wet your hands and squeeze a small amount onto your palm.
✿ Lather with water and massage gently in circular motion onto your wet face.
✿ Rinse thoroughly with water.

Does It Work for Me?

At first I thought that I have finally found the almost perfect cleanser through my first shot for my twice a day usage and I'm already on my second bottle at that time but I was wrong. As I said earlier, I didn't notice that this product contains SLS and no wonder that my skin felt tight after washing my face. The kind of tight feeling that makes me uncomfortable but not that much and due to that reason, I just shrug it off  and continue using it anyway hahaha. But luckily, I stop using this product after using it's second bottle after I finally gave up on this (I'm sorry) and I want to try another cleanser that won't make my skin tight after my washing routine. I'm really lucky that I don't experienced any breakout or having another 'guests' on my face after using this but I just don't really like the tight feeling. And for additional info, this product doesn't have any weird smell or anything so if you want to try this product, you don't have to worry about the smell.

Pros :

✿ Long lasting (mine last up to over 2 months)
✿ Did not breaking me out
✿ Did not have any weird smell
✿ Travel-friendly
✿ Affordable
✿ Low pH

Cons :

✿ Made my skin feel tight

Final Rating :

1 : BAD!
[Having a terrible breakout!]

2: MEH!
[Doesn't work for me and/or having a slight issues]

3 : OKAY!
[Product was great and work well but still lack of something]

4 : GREAT!
[A really great product that works well for me but has a potential for me to cheat]

5 : AMAHZING!
[A complete HOLY GRAIL product and I will devoted myself to you till the end of my life!]

Where To Buy?

✿ Buy it from the drugstores all around Malaysia such as Watsons/Guardian/etc
✿ Buy it online through Lazada from the Official Stores of Watsons/Guardian/Rohto Mentholatum

Repurchase/Recommended?

Repurchase : NOPE
Recommended : Well honestly I don't really have the guts to recommend products for people out there since YMMV and this product contains SLS which can be a harmful ingredient for those with sensitive skin and I think everyone should avoid it but if you're totally confident with this product with a belief that this won't make you breakout, then that's okay! :)

My Skincare Journey & Routine

June 04, 2018 Nurul Aida Aziz 4 Comments

Hey! Assalamualaikum!

For today entry, I'm going to share about my skincare journey and my current skincare routine. But before you start reading this, I really hope that you have done your reading on my previous entry : Skincare 101 and also have done your own research about skincare so that you will have a very  clear vision on what I'm going to write in this entry.

So, let's get going!

WARNING! : This is going to be a very long post so please bear with it.

Skincare Journey :

I experienced some minor breakout during my first attempt to start my own skincare routine around early 2017.

This is due to some reasons which are:

1. I did not do any researches about what my skin need, what ingredients that I should avoid and etc. I just grab and go.

2. I did not do any patch tests of the products on my skin before I introduce them on my skin.

3. I did not introduce my new skincare slowly to my skin and as a result, my skin cannot tolerate them. At all.

My skin rebelled against those products and made my skin breakout. But I think that I'm totally lucky enough because I only experienced minor breakout which is I got lot of whiteheads around my nose and my forehead and also large pores around the nose too. And somehow I have been thinking that if is it really a breakout or some sort of purging but somehow I don't think both of them applied to my situation at that time hahaha. Anyway, I managed to learn lots of lessons on my mistakes after I made a lot of researches about skincare through Twitter, blogs and even youtube (you can refer where I do my researches here). It really took me some time before I made another attempt for my skincare journey. After I felt confident with all my researches and being extra careful this time, I took my shot. I do my second skincare haul through online shopping on 11street and Lazada around February and March 2018.

Here are the details :

11street :

Lazada :

Kak Pana Dee :

Yellow Gorgeous (200g) : RM39
Aztec Clay Mask (Trial Pack) (100g) : RM40

So if I sum up the total cost from my skincare haul, it will be roughly cost around RM290.

And as for your acknowledgement, this is not really a basic skincare routine which is :

1. Oil cleanser & Water based cleanser (Double Cleanse)
2. Clay/Mud Mask
3. Scrub
4. Face/Sheet Mask
5. Toner
6. Moisturizer
7. SPF (sunscreen)

This is my own skincare routine based on my skin type, skin concern and skin goals.

And a basic skincare routine only consist of :

1. Oil cleanser & Water based cleanser (Double Cleanse)
2. Moisturizer
3. SPF

But as I said earlier, you may expand your skincare routine based on your skin concern and goals.

And I'm ready to go!

Skincare Routine :

But before I created my own skincare routine, there are a few things that I (including you too) need to know :

1. Your skin type
2. Your skin concerns
3. Your skin goals

1. My skin type : Combination which is my T-zone is oily and U-zone is dry.

2. My skin concerns : Dehydrated skin, large pores and acne & acne scars

3. My skin goals : To have a well hydrated skin and free-acne skin

So as for my dehydrated skin, I searched for products that have hydrating ingredients in them and one of my favorite hydrating ingredient is Hyaluronic Acid which is a total Holy Grail for me!
So my focus are to find products that contained Hyaluronic Acid and BAM, I came across to Hada Labo Hydrating Range products while I was scrolling through the internet. And I finally decided to buy the Hada Labo Hydrating Set for RM120 at 11street. This set contained a 100g Hydra and Whitening Face Wash, 170ml Hydrating Lotion (Light) and 50g Hydrating Water Gel.

Ouhh, I almost forget to mention that I also bought Hada Labo Cleansing Oil for double cleanse step.

When to use?

Use it as a 1st step in your night routine before water based cleanser.

How to use?

Continue with water based cleanser on your wet face.

Rinse and pat dry with your towel.

Continue your routine as usual.

And if by any chance that you also have dehydrated skin like me and want to know more about hydration and other hydrating ingredients, you can read here.

p/s : Here's some friendly reminder from me. If you got lots of skin concerns, tackle them one by one, okay? Don't force your skin to multitasking otherwise it will get upset and you wouldn't like it if it upset, right?

Okay, next!

For my large pores, I bought Aztec Clay Mask trial pack (100g) with free Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar from Kak Pana Dee for RM40.

The benefits of Aztec Clay Mask are :

When to use?

Use it 2-3 times per week after cleansing. Let it dry for about 10 to 15 minutes then rinse it up. Make sure to wear moisturize after that, okay?

But as for me, I would use the clay mask in the first step during my night routine and after that, I will use oil cleansing, proceed to wash off face mask (Yellow Gorgeous by Kak Ama)  and continue my routine as usual.

How to use?

Take about 1 or 2 small scoop of the clay mask and mix it with apple cider vinegar.
Apply evenly on face avoiding your eye area.
Let it dry for about 10 to 15 minutes until the clay mask changing it's colour then rinse off.

p/s :  Don't wear you mask too long because it can cause dehydration & dryness.

I don't really usually wait until it crack or the mask became really dry before I rinse off.

People with normal to oily skin are recommended to use clay mask because it can be a little bit drying especially to those who have dry skin and mud mask is recommended for any type of skin because it is less drying compared to the clay mask.

Okay! Next is, product that I buy for acne & acne scars.

I bought St. Ives Green Tea Scrub and Yellow Gorgeous for acne & acne scars treatment since I have lots of whiteheads on my forehead and also my nose.

As you are aware, I have already mentioned these products' prices up there and where I bought em.

St. Ives Green Tea Scrub : This product contained 1% Salicylic Acid which helps in acne treatment but this product is suitable for any skin type since the salicylic acid is only 1% which means that it is very mild. And it also claim to clear blackheads and calms redness. Plus, it also smells nice!

Yellow Gorgeous : Made up of only 5 natural ingredients ; Oatmeal, Epsom Salt, Rice, Coconut and Turmeric. It is specifically formulated to heal acne and to reduce acne scars. And what's way more important is that this product is freshly home made and hand mix! [click here to watch the process]

When to use?

St. Ives Green Tea Scrub : This is a physical exfoliation so you can only use it 2-3 times per week. You can use it in your day/night routine. But only 2-3 times per week! I usually use this in my 5th step of skincare routine after cleanser and before toner. But you can use this after you have done your double cleansing.

Yellow Gorgeous : This is a 2 in 1 product which you can either use it as a scrub or a wash off face mask. If you use it as a scrub, use it only 2-3 times per week and if you use it as a wash off face mask, you can use it everyday if you want. It is depend on you. I use this as a wash off face mask after using oil cleanser and before water based cleanser because the turmeric will stain your skin. Plus, if I use it after water based cleanser, my face will became a little bit itchy (which I really don't like it) so i will definitely use it after oil cleanser.

How to use?

St. Ives Green Tea Scrub :

Squeeze a small amount in about 10cent size onto your fingertips and massage onto damp skin.

Spread in small circular motions, applying gentle pressure to your skin. Remember, be gentle to your skin since it has small beads so if you're too harsh on your skin, you will hurt your skin. But those beads aren't as harsh as St. Ives Apricot Scrub as this is a moderate exfoliator.

Work all over your face including your hairline and onto the sides of your nose.

When you're done, rinse and pat dry with a towel.

Continue your routine as usual.

Yellow Gorgeous :

Mix one tablespoon of YG with one tablespoon of mineral water (you can mix it with another liquid such as plain yogurt, honey or even green tea [which is my fav!] after you're skin has detected it's reaction towards YG) until it turn to paste like.

Wash your face with oil cleanser first before you apply the mixture.

Spread the mixture in small circular motions.

Let it dry for 30 minutes (you can wear it more than 30 minutes if you want) and wash it off using lukewarm water (but sometimes I only use tap water to wash it off hahaha).

Continue with water based cleanser and the rest of your skincare routine.

p/s : Here are some link for videos on how to mix YG with water and YG with green tea so you could understand how to use it better. Enjoy!

✿ YG with Water

✿ YG with Green Tea

And finally, after this very long product by product explanation based on my skin concerns, I am happy to show you my current skincare routine (as for 30/05/2018) . Tadaa!

If you noticed, there are two additional products that I don't mention up there which are ; Micellar Water and Biore UV Perfect Milk.

Biore UV Perfect Milk is a sunscreen (SPF) which is a very important thing in your skincare routine. If you don't have one, go buy them NOW because all your other products that you used will be in vain if you aren't wearing sunscreen! Sunscreen will help you protecting your skin from the evil UV rays. You may not seeing the effects now but once you reach the ages of 30 and above, you will exactly know what I mean today, in this article, right now.

And as for Micellar Water, I used it to remove my sunscreen every time I solat and before doing my double cleansing step. Some beauty guru will called this step as pre-cleanse. Micellar Water also act as a makeup remover but I don't wear any makeup so I use it as sunscreen remover and also lip balm remover muahaha. If you use makeup and don't want to use Micellar Water, I think it's totally fine as long as you do double cleanse as the oil cleanser can also remove makeup.

So, this is my current skincare routine which are the steps are fixed but I'm going to add a few steps after this since my newbies will arrive tomorrow [can't wait!]

p/s : I forgot to make a different color for the clay mask and scrub since it was a weekly routine where you can only use them 2-3 times per week so I really hope you won't get confused by this and I'm really sorry for the wrong input.

I think that I have write a really, really long entry this time and this is the longest entry by far and if I don't stop writing now, this entry will forever be in draft due to lack of time.

So, I hope that this entry will inspired some of you to start your own skincare journey even though the percent was low for anyone to read it hahaha. Anyway, I had my great time writing this out since I have been planning this quite a long time so I'm glad that I have made it this time. I will be more happy if this entry will be read by people out there but even if there aren't one, I'm still enjoying my time writing all these stuff.

BUT! Before I end my entry, here is a friendly reminder for you if you want to start your own skincare routine :

Please follow this guideline if you are still new to skincare (and also if you don't want to experience bad breakout during your first time) and even if you are already expert with skincare, don't forget to patch test, okay?

I have experienced this to myself during my first attempt just like I said it before so I don't want for other people to go through the same hard times too so do lots of readings and researches then you're ready to go!

Good luck!

After this, I will be doing some review on my skincare products that I have used/currently use which are all of the products up above.

So, see you next time!

Thank you for reading!
